Dancing in Aisle 9 is a poignant and darkly comic one-act play by Rainee Skinner that explores anxiety, human connection, and existential overwhelm—all set in the fluorescent-lit purgatory of a supermarket aisle. Perfect for drama festivals, senior school productions, and contemporary theatre programs, this two-hander offers rich emotional depth and sharp dialogue.

A distressed woman collapses in a supermarket aisle, paralyzed by the impossible task of choosing a shampoo. Her breakdown draws the attention of a gentle shelf packer, who offers her water, empathy, and—unexpectedly—a philosophical lifeline. As their conversation unfolds, the play evolves from comic absurdity into a profound meditation on modern life, consumerism, and the quiet revolution of letting go.

Ideal for small casts and intimate staging, Dancing in Aisle 9 is a fresh, funny, and deeply moving script that invites performers and audiences alike to question the chaos of modern life—and maybe even dance through it.
